Black Squirrel Farms turns the wild black walnuts that grow in the natural beauty of upstate and central New York into delicious or useful household products.
Anyone with access to black walnut trees is welcome to join our no-cost, no-obligation black walnut collection program. When our collection season is open, we lend burlap bags and nut rollers to program members who gather and drop off black walnuts. *Please note that due to unexpectedly strong 2023 interest in the program, we cannot guarantee that there will be a nut roller available to borrow at the Penn Yan site (590 NY 14) for those who have not yet picked one up. There are plenty of burlap bags available and disposable gloves will be likewise available*.
Nut rollers make walnut gathering easier.
2023 Black Walnut Collection Season: Our 2023 black walnut season will run from Sept 16 - Oct 24. During this time, collection program members can drop off gathered black walnuts at their convenience at our location at 590 State Route 14, Penn Yan, NY or at either of our two affiliated locations, 1409 Curtis Co-op Rd. Sterling, NY 13156 or 677 Castle Creek Rd, Binghamton, NY (See map). Walnut gathering supplies are available at these locations. Our program offers a payout rate of $10 per 100 pounds of raw walnuts or 1 package of shelled walnuts per every 75 lbs of raw walnuts dropped off. Program members receive payouts after the season closes. If you're still looking for more information, please check our FAQ page or message us.
Fill out the form below to become a program member. Responding to this survey will add you to our contact list, it does not obligate you to deliver walnuts. An email newsletter is the primary way we keep program members up to date so members are aware of participation options and can then decide when and how they may choose to participate.
